Gachagua Attack: Matungulu MP Mule threatens to remove IG Kanja

Matungulu MP Stephen Mule has condemned an incident where goons invaded a church service in Kasarani, Nairobi where former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was present, causing chaos.
The lawmaker also said he may push for the removal of Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, if he continues involving himself in political affairs.
Addressing the media on Sunday, April 6, Mule urged the IG to steer clear of politics and instead prioritize the safety and security of Kenyans.
He emphasized that Parliament is watching closely and will take necessary action if the police chief fails to ensure accountability for those who disrupted the service at PCEA Kasarani East church.
The MP stated that Kanja will be tasked with conducting an investigation and revealing the identities of those who organized and financed the goons who disrupted the church service.
"How can you engage in politics in a rally in Nyeri and you cannot protect the faithful who have gone to worship in PCEA Kasarani? We are going to call you out early enough; you either style up, or we start a process to remove you from office as members of parliament," he said.
Mule, who strongly condemned the incident, urged security agencies nationwide to step up and fulfill their constitutional duty of protecting the church.
"I want to condemn the action and the event that has happened at PCEA Kasarani today in the strongest terms possible, and we want to urge the IG, DCI, and all the other security operators that you have the responsibility to protect the church and the faithful as they worship. Kenyans have the right to worship without any disturbance," he said.
On Sunday, chaos erupted in Kasarani when security personnel linked to the former Deputy President fired shots into the air to scatter a group of youths who had stormed a church gathering.
Reports suggest the youths were allegedly demanding cash handouts in exchange for attending the event, prompting a reaction from the former DP's security team.
Gachagua condemned the incident, calling it “insensitive and unkind,” and accused the President of orchestrating the disruption by sending goons to infiltrate a place of worship.
"My President. What happened to you? In a church? You have reached a different level. You sent me goons in Limuru last week, you sent goons to Nyeri, and now you've sent them to church. You have become bold," he said.
